The
appropriated image of the girl in this piece is from the late 19th century.
The photo was taken by the doctors who intended to fit the girl for prosthetic
legs.
She
was described as" bright" and quite capable of getting around by
walking on her hands.
One
can't help but wonder if the prosthetic devices did improve her life and if
she even wanted them. Was she somehow convinced that she would be more
"normal" and therefor, "better"?
