Julia Pastrana - detail

Still in storage in 1979, Julia’s arm is knocked off by thieves and found at a city dump.

Further investigation by the police turned up the rest of her body with her dress torn and face slashed.

It was only at this time that it was understood that the bodies of Julia Pastrana and her child hadn’t been mummified but mounted by traditional taxidermy methods.

Presently in storage at Rikshospitalet in Oslo.
